Not to mention the smell of bonfires in the air, roasting marshmallows, and of course, pumpkin spice everything. Many look forward to this season every year, and it’s finally here. There are about a million things to do in autumn, from pumpkin patches to haunted houses to spooky movie nights. In fact, fall seems like the perfect excuse to get outside, spend time with family and friends, and make some memories to last a lifetime. So what are you waiting for? Read on to explore our top picks for fall and Halloween events in Louisville, Kentucky.

Jack o’ Lantern Spectacular

Lauded as “The region’s best Halloween event,” the Jack o’ Lantern Spectacular might just be the perfect Halloween activity for you this year. This event is a walking path through Iroquois Park. Along the trail, you’ll get to meander through majestic woods and stare in awe at an organic gallery of over 5,000 carved pumpkins, lit with colorful lights. This immersive experience involves countless themed vignettes, all set to music.

Jack o’ Lantern Spectacular has become a beloved tradition for many families in the Louisville area. You may also consider attending the Pre-Lit Bash on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On this day, you can visit the show without waiting in line. You’ll also get food and beverages.

Ticket prices may fluctuate based on demand and the time you make your purchase. Your ticket purchase supports the non-profit Parks Alliance of Louisville and community-driven projects in Louisville public parks and community centers.

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 4 through Monday, Oct. 31, 2022

Trunk or Treat

Looking for some community-centered Halloween joy? Look no further than the 6th Annual Park Community Credit Union Trunk or Treat. Another sponsor of this event is Families for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT) of Louisville. This free event will be chock full of festive decorations, costumes, and treats. Sensory hours will occur from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for disabled individuals and their families. The event is in Jeffersontown, about a 30-minute drive away from Louisville.

Date: Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022

Time: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Location: 2515 Blankenbaker Parkway, Jeffersontown

Trick or Treat at the BallPark

Do your kids have a sweet tooth? Well, you’re in luck. Louisville Slugger Field will be hosting Trick or Treat at the BallPark with plenty of candy to go around. Trick-or-treating on the main concourse will start at 6 p.m., so make sure to bring a bag to collect. The movie starts at 8:00 p.m., and this year’s feature is Halloweentown, a light-hearted, nostalgic 1998 movie following a family that finds out their ancestors are witches when they visit their grandma’s unique town.

There will also be bouncy houses, face painting, pumpkins, and more. No outside food or beverages are allowed inside. However, concessions stands are available encompassing normal ballpark fare. Tickets are $2 for kids 12 and younger and $5 for adults. You can purchase tickets online or at the box office window on the night of the event. Parking is free.

Fall Scavenger Hunt

Families with preschool to fourth-grade-aged children can attend this year’s Fall Scavenger Hunt at Walden School campus. Here, your kids can journey through the school’s Green Space to find hidden objects and complete amusing nature challenges. There will also be some collaborative family tasks that allow you to spend some quality time with your kiddo. Plus, make sure to bring your camera, as there will be some wonderful picture opportunities.

If the weather is too cold, the scavenger hunt will move indoors in the school. Make sure to register online in advance, as there’s only a capacity for 50 families. Just fill out some simple information about you and your family to register. All participants will receive a Scavenger Hunt packet and clues, a Walden goodie bag, and complimentary hot cocoa. Indoor restrooms will be available at this event.

Twilight Tour – Hayride and Lantern Walk

Looking for an extraordinary, family-friendly fall activity to try? Experience the beauty of Hermitage Farm at dusk with the peaceful Twilight Tour – Hayride and Lantern Walk. Join entertaining guides for a friendly tour of the farm pastures, all while aboard a tractor-pulled hay wagon.

Grab something to sip on before you board, like a boozy bourbon hot cider or a non-alcoholic version. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. As the sunset transforms into twilight, you’ll learn about the farm’s history, the legacy of Kentucky horse racing, and local folktales. Afterward, you can visit the Barn6 Speakeasy for commemorative photos and meet the resident retired racehorses Dubious Miss and Future Prospect.

Next, take a lantern and follow the guide through the gardens. Consider making reservations at the Barn8 Restaurant. For a lovely finale to your evening, stroll through the Art Walk, a stunning and immersive light show. Tickets for this event are $40 for adults, $35 for seniors, $25 for children 6 and up, and $5 for children 5 and younger.
